Tiger Takedown: Aztec Wrestling Nation Newsletter #6 2018-2019 1/14/2019

On Thursday the Tigers traveled 2 ½ hours to dual the Utah State Champions, Monticello, Buckaroos. This was the first time since 1978 that Aztec has wrestled them in Monticello. Aztec came away with a 52-12 win, making the drive home much easier. On Saturday, the JV won the Garrison Spencer Memorial Invitational, beating 2 varsity and 2 JV teams along the way to the Championship. The Varsity showed both promise and the need for more improvement, while at the always tough Rocky Mountain Championships in Pagosa Springs. We placed third, which was both gratifying and unsatisfactory, as far as our overall performance throughout the long day.

No Fear Wrestlers of the Week: JV Justin Hargis Varsity Christian Robison

Events of the week: Friday and Saturday Varsity at the Doc Wright Invitational in Winslow, Arizona

Side note: Your Aztec Wrestling Nation Wrestlers are now into their 2nd week of full blown State conditioning. State conditioning consists of Monday and Wednesday at 6am, 17 station circuit lifting, then 2 miles of running and drilling while tired. Tuesdays, at 7am, it is quickness training along with normal hard practices. This has been an Aztec Wrestling staple for generations and has produced winning results. We take pride in being the hardest working wrestling program in New Mexico.
