Tiger Takedown: Aztec Wrestling Nation Newsletter #7 2018-2019 1/21/19
Aztec becomes only the 3rd New Mexico team to win one of the oldest and most prestigious wrestling tournaments in Arizona. The 55th Doc Wright Invitational hosted 33 teams from in and around the Four Corners area and after 2 days of tough wrestling Aztec came away with a decisive 76.5 point margin win. A total of 8 Aztec Wrestlers walked away with medals and all 13 wrestlers who participated in the tournament scored points towards the total team effort. Our two girl wrestlers, 125# 8th grader Makayla Munoz and 160# 9th grader Princess Altisi, were entered in the first Doc Wright Girls Wrestling Tournament; each earned a Championship.

Side Notes: While in Winslow over the weekend, Coach Stinson was greeted by Clint Mortensen, a 1992 Aztec Grad and wrestler whose son wrestles on the Winslow Wrestling Team at 182#. Tonya Stinson, 1991 grad and 1987-1991 Aztec Wrestling manager and Secretary for the Building Board received the coveted “Citizens of the Year” for Farmington.
