2019-2020 Tiger Takedown Newsletter #2 12/9/2019
The high school season started with our annual Junior Varsity Round Robin Wrestling Tournament. Although we have 40+ kids out, only 10 were used for a variety of reasons this past weekend. Ten schools from in, and around, the area competed in 21 pools for a 1st place Gold medal throughout the day. No team title was awarded, as the tournament is based on getting everyone 5 total matches.

NO Fear wrestlers of the week:
Girls: Katelin Klepac, a first year wrestler who had to wrestle in an all boys bracket and went the distance with showing No Fear.
Boys: Cody Hargis for winning his 145# bracket with 5 falls.

Friday Dual at home vs Bayfield V & JV at 6:00 pm
Saturday 14th 44th Annual Bloomfield Invitational, Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Girls all day Saturday starting @ 10am.
On a sad note: 3 x New Mexico 138# State Champion and 1983 AHS graduate David Hines passed away in Grand Junction on November 22nd. He had been living there since his accident in 1983 which left him paralyzed from the waist down. He was remembered for his baiting style of wrestling. People would drive miles to watch him wrestle Ignacio’s first State Champ, Kip Palmer. There were 7 matches between the two, Kip lead the series 4-3 but David had the only pin between the two. David, with his baiting grin, would love to hear the crowd yelling or booing him, giving him a surge to push harder. The Hines-Palmer cup was a tall trophy given to the winning team between Aztec and Ignacio, for many years after the two wrestlers had left. Aztec never lost the series of duals. A sad Aztec Wrestling Nation says goodbye to one of its own……
