To take a quote from NASA, “Mission Accomplished!” Aztec won a fifth straight State Championship, the 21st overall in the record books. The three-member girls team, who were outnumbered 2-1, brought home yet another State trophy, Runner-up out of a field of 44 teams. As our program stresses every season, the Big Trust of the Process pays off in the end! The total team effort that it takes to bring home any state placing trophy is both extensive and calculated, down to the last minute. All 13 boys and all 3 girls contributed vital team points to their respective team’s ultimate success. The planning is season long, the life lessons that can be learned through gracious winning and humbled losing can stay with you a lifetime. Gratitude for just being able to wrestle can leave you a far better person. Aztec Wrestling has had 21 senior classes of State Championship teams leave, knowing they sacrificed to be a small part of a rich history. The teamwork extends upwards, from the wrestlers who are in the room every day, through the coaching staff, training staff, school teachers, transportation staff and into the administration. This cooperation delivers years of memories and develops future leaders for our community, state and country.
