The wrestling team has shown steady improvement and is feeling the effects of its tough early schedule, as we start down the final stretch of the season. The regular season has come to an end and the 1-4A District duals are this Saturday in Bloomfield.
On Friday night, we hosted the always tough Cedaredge Bruins, who are currently ranked #2 in Colorado. The outcome of the tough dual went our way, as our wrestlers came alive to beat the Bruins 46-31 at Parent and Senior appreciation night, held in Lillywhite Gym. On Saturday, we traveled to the perpetually tough Butch Melton Invitational and wrestled against 14 other schools and came away with second place. Once again, our arch nemesis Farmington beat us for the Championship, but this time we lead the entire day until the upper weights of Farmington proved to be too much for us and they pulled away for the victory. Our young men wrestled hard and proved that we will be capable of defending our classification at the State Tournament. Two of our young ladies wrestled in Ignacio, as well and both won their weight class. Two of our wrestlers were voted Outstanding Wrestler of the event, Makayla Munoz for the females and Bryson Valdez for the males.
